The People’s Choice Awards was the first red carpet of the 2015 awards season, and it kicked off the year on a very strong note. It is traditionally a ceremony that isn’t strictly black tie, so it’s cool because it usually gives us many wearable trends to watch out for.
This year, it was a lesson in non-boring evening wear. The main trend was jumpsuits, which is always a very classy alternative to dresses. Next time you feel like standing out at an event, try going for jumpsuits in neutral colours with special little details like Ellen Pompeo’s lace cutouts, Monica Potter’s gold chain collar or Portia Del Rossi’s geometric pattern.
For those of us who are still not brave enough for jumpsuits, other celebs showed us another good alternative to dresses: the pant suit. Stick to classic colours, fabrics and cuts, and just like Bella Thorne and Melissa McCarthy, there’s no way you’ll go wrong.
While these trends are certainly a great way to spice things up, I must confess my favourite look of the night was Kat Dennings’. Sure, I’ve had a massive girl-crush on her ever since I was a teenager and saw her for the first time in Raise Your Voice (yes, that Hilary Duff movie), but this black lace number is pure perfection! The hair, makeup and accessories complement the dress extremely well, and I’d wear this in a heartbeat. Love!
